Finishing
Like cabinetmakers in centuries past, I hand rub each piece I make with a special blend of oil and varnish in order to impart a soft, warm glow to the surface of the wood. The particular finish I use is naturally derived from sustainably–grown plant products, completely non–toxic, non–allergenic, and free of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This makes it friendly both to the environment and to the hands that apply it, as well as everyone whose fingertips will grace the surfaces of the furniture it protects for years to come.
The finish is easily maintained, needing nothing more than a quick wipe with a damp cloth from time time. I would be happy to provide you with a small touch–up kit should the need arise.
I gently resist the use of shiny, polished films because they can easily stand in the way of what ought to be the greatest joy of owning solid wood furniture—the soft, smooth feel of a natural surface. The natural resin varnish I employ protects the surface of the wood from most spills and scuffs, while still allowing the deep beauty of the wood to show through.
